GENEVA, March 14 (KUNA) -- Chairman of the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria Norbert Hauser on Monday praised the State of Kuwait for its support for combating spread of such diseases worldwide.
In a statement to KUNA, as he emerged from a meeting with the State of Kuwait Permanent Delegate at the UN, Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghnaim, Hauser said Kuwait was among the first countries that offered help "to our efforts in states where we operate -- mostly affiliated to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)." Affirming that such help is crucial for combating epidemics, the chairman underscored Kuwait's aid for refugees namely Syrians, many of whom live in squalor conditions, prone to turn into hubs for deadly viruses.
He added that the fund would focus in the foreseeable future on improving health and hygienic conditions for the Syrian escapees in countries around their troubled home country. (end) ta.rk
