Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki , has said that his administration is set to privatise the state’s Specialist Hospital in Benin to provide world-class health care services of the people.

This was contained in a statement signed by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the  Edo State Government and the Catholic Relief Services which donated over two million treated mosquito nets to residents on Wednesday.

According to the governor, the move will boost the quality of medical services at the hospital and also attract Nigerians who ordinarily would have travelled abroad for such treatments.

Obaseki stated that the accruing resources from medical tourists would be used to subsidise health care services for indigent citizens.

He added that his administration placed a high premium on primary health care hence the drive to distribute malaria prevention tools to residents.

“I hope we will make history by emerging the first state in the country to totally eliminate malaria. Our counterpart fund is available and we are working round the clock to ensure that the timeline we set for ourselves for the rollout which is  August 20, this year is met,” Obaseki said.

The leader of the team for the CRS, Dr. Ikhimioya Uchechuku, commended the governor for the collaboration and expressed the organisation’s readiness to work with the administration to ensure that malaria become a thing of the past in the state.
