DALLAS, TEXAS, USA, March 25, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Linking the World today announced an official partnership with LifeStraw® for the delivery of LifeStraw® Community water purifiers to victims of Cyclone Pam in Vanuatu.

On March 14th, a category 5 storm tore through the country of Vanuatu destroying over 90% of all structures and homes. With local water supplies contaminated, the country had an immediate lack of access to clean water and within days the local population began drinking seawater.

According to Verisk Maplecroft, which publishes the Natural Hazards Risk At-las, Vanuatu is considered the most vulnerable country to natural disasters. It is geo-logically located on the active “Ring of Fire” and endures frequent tsunamis, earth-quakes, rising sea levels and even active volcanoes.

LifeStraw® Community is a high-volume water purifier with built-in safe storage that converts microbiologically contaminated water into safe drinking water. It’s a vital tool for community, educational and institutional settings that don’t have access to safe water, leaving them at risk for diarrheal and other water-borne diseases.

LifeStraw® Community has been field tested in harsh environments and vigorously tested in the laboratory where it has exceeded US EPA requirements for household water treatments. LifeStraw® Community also meets World Health Organization standards for the “Highly Protective” category of safe drinking water.

“Emergency access to clean, safe water is critical during disaster response opera-tions while contributing to long term sustainability and resilience of the communities we serve. We are proud to partner with LifeStraw®, a globally recognized company dedicated to creating innovative, life-saving solutions.” Said Mina Chang, Linking the World CEO. “The storm may be over, but the humanitarian crisis is just beginning and giving the people the tools to be resilient is what will ensure redevelopment“

The LifeStraw® personal water filter has received many awards since it was introduced in 2005. Time magazine named LifeStraw® the “Best Invention of 2005.” In 2008, it won the Saatchi and Saatchi Award for “World Changing Ideas”. Esquire called LifeStraw® the “Innovation of the Year,” Forbes stated that LifeStraw® is “one of the ten things that will change the way we live”.

Donations will be used to provide safe water to victims in Vanuatu. For every $500 raised, 75 people will be provided with sustained access to safe water. To donate to Linking the World’s safe water initiative featuring LifeStraw® visit www.linkingtheworld.org/donate.
